An engagement party is a great time to throw off inhibitions and really push the boat out. Some couples choose to have two parties, one for family which may be more formal, and one for friends where anything goes! Fancy dress is certainly a popular option for the less formal party, with the emphasis on couples – even if the fancy dress couple in question is Tom and Jerry! An engagement party sometimes includes a cake and if the wedding is very soon, a tier of the engagement cake can be incorporated into the wedding cake, although with the current fashion for cupcakes this may soon become less common.
